Be a financial lifeline for your neighbors in need – volunteer with VITA!
Imagine helping a family receive the tax refund they deserve, empowering them to meet their needs and secure a better financial future. As a United Way tax assistance volunteer, you can make that happen!
What is VITA?
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is an IRS program that utilizes certified volunteers to help provide free and accurate tax preparation services to low-to-moderate income taxpayers. United Way of the Plains receives a grant from the IRS to run the program locally. In 2025, volunteers filed 6,200 tax returns and helped return a record-breaking $8 million in refunds to taxpayers in south-central Kansas. Every refund represents a family's opportunity for stability and growth.
What volunteer roles are available?
We are looking for volunteers to act as greeters, intake specialists, and tax preparers. Bilingual speakers are encouraged to sign up!
