A Brush With Kindness - Exterior Home Repair & Landscaping

Expired

Description

A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) is our newest program to support existing homeowners with exterior home repairs.

There are times when we need volunteers on short notice and this happens to be just such an occasion! Join us as we knock out a variety of A Brush With Kindness projects and plant trees, shrubs and lay sod on several new houses within our Rock the Block neighborhood. Together we can empower through shelter and grown community pride!

Who can volunteer:

Anyone 16 or older is welcome to join us as a volunteer on our construction site.

  • Volunteers 18 and older do not need to fill out a liability waiver, as you agreed to our Terms & Conditions upon registering online.
  • Volunteer 16 and 17 must print out a minor waiver to fill out and have a parent/guardian sign it.

What should I wear/bring to volunteer?

  • What to wear:
    • weather-appropriate clothing that is ok to get dirty/painted
    • closed-toe, sturdy shoes
    • hat and/or sunglasses
  • What to bring:
    • Energy!
    • A reusable water bottle is encouraged, though we'll have disposable cups on-site.
    • You're welcome to bring your own tools if you prefer (please label them), but we will always provide the necessary tools for assigned tasks.

What can volunteers expect from Habitat?

  • Safe Work Environments: Safety orientations begin every construction day, and safety equipment is provided.
  • Productive Work Days: Everything you need will be provided, and you'll see the tangible results of your work.
  • A Chance to Learn New Skills: No experience is necessary - our construction staff and core volunteers are here to teach you everything you need to know.
  • Patience, Perspective and a Sense of Humor: We work hard and we have fun doing it!

What can Habitat expect from volunteers?

  • Prompt Arrival: Having everyone at orientation makes our work sites safer and more efficient and helps finish homes on schedule.
  • Safety: Follow instructions from Habitat staff and core volunteers for safety procedures and equipment usage.
  • Commitment: If you sign up to volunteer, we count on you, and so do our homebuyer families!
  • Flexibility: Sometimes weather doesn't cooperate, a task doesn't go according to plan or we need to refocus our efforts. Either way, we’ll make it work and hope you will too!

In the morning...

Please park along 10th Street North and avoid blocking neighborhood driveways and mailboxes. Please avoid parking directly in front of the job site, as material trucks may need to pull in. Once parked, look for a tan popup tent and shipping container in the vacant lot of 1055 N Green; this will serve as the volunteer registration hub. Check in there, make a name tag and await further instructions.
