Volunteer: Donation Sorting at GIV Warehouse

Give Back at GIV this Holiday Season.

Serve United is celebrating the season by volunteering at United Way's Give Items of Value (GIV) Warehouse. This program is a powerful bridge between organizations with excess inventory and nonprofits in south-central Kansas, whose tight budgets limit their ability to purchase critical supplies to support their mission.

With the help of volunteers like you, donations like bedding, cleaning supplies, and kitchen utensils are sorted and stocked so nonprofits can "shop" for the items they need, free of charge.

Volunteers must be 16 years of age and older to volunteer at the Warehouse.

Volunteer: Volunteer Train Operator

We are looking for volunteers to help operate the large-scale model trains at Botanica. This role involves both running the trains and interacting with visitors in a relaxed outdoor setting. No prior experience with trains is needed—just an interest in engaging with guests and being part of the garden’s atmosphere.

Beginning March 15th, the trains will run seven days a week from 9 AM to 8 PM (weather permitting). Volunteer shifts are typically three hours long, and you may sign up for as many as you’d like. While we have openings every day, Saturdays are especially important, as they tend to be the busiest and hardest to staff.

If you’re interested, you’re welcome to shadow a current operator first to see if the role is a good fit. If you decide to continue, you’ll have the opportunity to train alongside an experienced operator until you feel confident taking a shift on your own.
