Disaster duty officers are a lifeline to temporary assistance during a disaster. Volunteer Duty Officers are responsible for dispatching Red Cross volunteers to meet with families impacted by home fires and other disasters so they can provide temporary relief. Must have good phone, computer skills and internet.

Leadership

May determine if Red Cross action is required; may decide if Red Cross will respond. Uses event triggers such as size, scope, and type of the event to direct the response. Works with on-scene leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance. Support and trains new responders.

Functional

Dispatch team members and monitor the response to ensure appropriate resources are made available. Documents incoming disaster notification and creates & verifies events in an internal system, when applicable. May be required to monitor activity across multiple responses. Notify staff of significant events, and contribute to an report, when appropriate. Attends regularly scheduled team meetings as required by supervisor.

MUST LIVE IN KANSAS or OKLAHOMA

Online volunteer application required.  This position is offered in several shifts each day.l

• Ensure family information is in the case management system
• Email and phone military families to provide Red Cross preparedness information 
• Provide additional support, as appropriate.

This position is operating in a virtual capacity.  Training is provided.  Computer/internet/phone required.

 

Conduct follow-up for clients within 72 hours of case being opened by Disaster Action Team or Caseworker. May also conduct Intake and provide Financial Assistance to qualified clients if case was not opened by Disaster Action Team member Conduct Follow-up and Recovery Planning Services Provide Internal Referrals and External Referrals. Assist with problem-solving and advocacy upon request Use RC Care to document services according to the Client Care Program Standards and Procedures and RC Care Job Tools. Work with community recovery partners to plan for community recovery needs and long-term recovery activities.

All training is provided.  This position is operating in a virtual environment at this time.  Computer/internet/phone required.

About This Position

Are you a dependable, safe and courteous driver who can help us make this important delivery?

Volunteer Transportation Specialists deliver life-saving blood products from Red Cross distribution facilities to hospitals, using a Red Cross-owned vehicle. We need you to commit to 2-4 shifts per month (or more if you can!). Typical shifts are about 4 hours.  Day and evening shifts are available, however priority needs are weekend mornings, long-distance routes, and evenings.

You’ll also need to meet these important qualifications:

Have a valid state driver's license and proof of insurance Have 3 years driving experience and a clean driving record Can lift up to 45 lbs.

Provide excellent and enthusiastic customer service to enhance the blood donor experience. Engage with blood donors to promote blood donation and set the stage for a long-term commitment to regular blood donations. Express gratitude and ensure each blood donor is sincerely thanked for their donation.

Responsibilities

Greet donors, explain the donation process as necessary and assist with initial intake and hand offs through the blood donation process Manage donor flow at temp taking station to ensure only donors passing temp screen are permitted access. Explain purpose of temperature screen to donors and ensure they understand reason for deferral if applicable. Direct donor to next step of donation or options for future donations if deferred. Model excellent customer service behaviors. Ensure blood donors have relevant information and that questions are answered appropriately while creating a favorable impression of the blood donation process. Learn and share the Red Cross story, including the mission, vision, and values Provide customer service to donors in the Hospitality Area by ensuring that each donor is recognized for his/her contribution. Report possible adverse post-donation physical reactions to the collections staff. Set up and maintain cleanliness in Reception and Hospitality Areas, and Donor Areas/Beds as requested Work with collections team supervisor or charge staff to match donor’s blood type with the best product for maximum impact Responsible to inform donors of current and upcoming donation promotions May make reminder/cancellation calls, re-schedule donor appointments, and perform follow up activities as directed

Qualifications

Ability to display the utmost professionalism and communication skills Extremely comfortable working with people from diverse communities and backgrounds Ability to understand technology needed for position: Donor Check-in, Donor Tablet, Rapid Pass, Donor App. Ability to explain/teach technology to donors and fellow volunteers Ability to regularly commit to schedule, arrive punctually and adapt to a change driven culture

****NOTE: May be required to meet 18 or over age requirements to take temperatures, but not the other Donor Ambassador tasks
