We are looking for volunteers to assist at Botanica’s front desk and gift shop! These roles are perfect for anyone who enjoys engaging with visitors and helping create a welcoming experience at the gardens. Front desk volunteers assist with admissions, membership inquiries, and general guest information, while gift shop volunteers help with sales, stocking, and providing recommendations on unique garden-inspired merchandise.

Shifts are available seven days a week, with flexible four-hour time slots. You may sign up for as many as you’d like, but weekend availability is especially valuable as those tend to be our busiest days.

Our disaster team, made up of community volunteers, provides care to individuals impacted by disasters. We also serve first responders and emergency workers. EDS volunteers can choose to respond to local, regional, national disasters, and even global disasters.

Compeer is a national mentoring program hosted by MHA that serves the needs of those dealing with mental health issues (or who have a guardian dealing with Mental health issues). Currently we are recruiting mentors for our Compeer Lunch Buddy program. Volunteers are trained in mentoring and mental health before they are matched with a student. Once matched, they spend at least one hour a week at the student's school during lunch/recess. Step up and provide a child with a positive role model, mentor, and caring friend; be a Lunch Buddy and make a difference for you and them.

Must be experienced in Spanish medical terminolgy and be confident about interpreting in a cliniclal setting. Position conforms with HIPAA regulations.

We need medical scribes with experience to accompany our doctors as they consult with patients. They are provided with a Chrome notebook for the purpose. Must be over 18 and will require a background check and references. Sessions can vary.

Volunteers answer the 24-hour helpline by listening carefully, offering problem-solving ideas and referring callers to community resources that are best suited for their needs. Daytime calls are answered at the office (8am - 5pm) and evening calls are transferred to you through the answering service in your home. Flexible shifts and training provided. Work as little as four hours per month.

Licensed nurses assist providers with outpatient needs. This includes the intake of the patient and follwing up with medications and test appointments.

Our Literacy Volunteers work with students of all ethnicities and ages to improve skills in math, reading, writing, digital literacy, and employment. Classes include students who are

Class times include afternoons and evenings at our El Dorado and Andover campuses as well as Wichita locations including the Butler Service Center in southeast Wichita, Workforce Center in northwest Wichita, and at the Evergreen Community Center.

Informational Meetings are scheduled to introduce our Volunteer Program and answer your questions. Meeting times can be scheduled via email or phone.

Provide meal service support during lunch at our Manufacturing facility in south Wichita. Volunteers will plate and serve meals through the kitchen window to employees and consumers during lunch breaks. 

Volunteer at our events held in or Wichita, KS usually in the month of August.  Volunteers will help with check in, silent/live auction, set up, clean up and many other opportunities the night of the event. 

Help sort & process clothing, shoes and household items that have been donated by individuals and businesses. Distribute to areas needed or stored.

We have several opportunities to utilize volunteers with medical backgrounds--RN, Medical Assistant, Nurse's Aid, etc.

IMPORTANT side note--If at all possible, please bring your own Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) as we have a minimal number of masks and gowns.  However, if you have some type of medical training and desire to volunteer, we’ll make sure you have the PPE you need to assist in the tasks that require it.  Also, any men who are ill are being quarantined.  

The Alzheimer's Association takes students from all different degrees. Ex: Social Work, Marketing, Public Health, ect.

We are currently seeking individuals to help the Alzheimer's Association place personal calls to our constituents during this uncertain time. The health and safety of our participants and volunteers remain our drivers as we address the COVID-19 outbreak and as we continue to pursue our mission, today and in the longer term. Building relationships with our Team Captains, Sponsors and Champions is even more vital.

All volunteers willing to make calls will be provided scripts and contact information.

Gift Shop Attendant

The Amelia's Landing Gift Shop at the Kansas Aviation Museum offers volunteer opportunities during the week and weekend. We provide training and materials to ensure that you will have a successful and enjoyable volunteer experience.

Our Amelia's Landing sells a variety of aviation themed items. Gift Shop attendants will assist with sales, stocking, and keeping the gift shop and lobby clean and attractive to our museum guests. 

This is the first point of contact for most of our guests so the gift shop attendants need to have strong customer service skills. Prior cashier skills are valued but we are happy to train if needed. 

If you would like to volunteer in the gift shop but do not want the responsibility of handling the register duties, we are happy to have your help in stocking shelves, folding museum brochures, assisting guests with questions about where the exhibits are in the museum, and light cleaning duties in the gift shop and lobby area.

Tour Guides aka Docents

Kansans truly value Kansas history, especially aviation history, and represent our largest group of visitors. But the museum also hosts visitors from all over the country and the world.

As a tour guide, you’ll meet some of the nicest people in the world, all interested in the story of Kansas aviation. They could be members of a local Scout troop, school children on a field trip, a family on vacation from another state, or executives from another country.

Since we opened in 1991, we’ve had visitors from all 50 states and from every country in the world. As a museum tour guide, you can be right there to meet these interesting folks, sharing the fascinating history of Kansas aviation and the story of our beautiful art deco building which is on the register of National Historical Buildings.

Education

Our education programs are possible because of volunteers who enjoy working with children. There are two types of education volunteers: those who help us keep the Lattner Learning Classroom, Boeing STEM Learning Hangar, and the Lattner Hanger fun places for the children to learn and play; and those who want to assist with tours when we host groups of children from kindergarten through high school.

The educational tour volunteers may help children find the right supplies to create with, show them how the simulator talks with the mock control tower, or even help them decide if they’d like to color or build. Our group volunteers will learn about the different activities within a school tour program and work with a group of students to help them learn principles of flight and engineering while they are here. You needn’t be an engineer to volunteer; though several of our volunteers are, we will train you and help you feel comfortable answering questions.

Hands-on aircraft restoration opportunities, from general maintenance to highly technical work, await those with the requisite expertise and interest. We are home to a variety of general aviation and military aircraft and always have restoration projects ongoing that need care by dedicated and skilled individuals. If you are interested in learning how to work on Museum level restoration and have some crafting experience, please join us. Restoration on historical aircraft is quickly becoming a lost art. Come learn from highly skilled aviation restoration crew members to keep these important skills going for future restoration.

Just imagine walking into our lobby and instantly stepping back into the 1930’s when air travel was new and exciting. That’s the vision we have, and we’re not stopping until that vision is realized. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum’s home is the original Wichita Municipal Airport terminal. The exterior of this grand art deco building has been restored, but there is much work to do inside.

Our building restoration workers range from Eagle Scouts to retirees. All, however, have one thing in common: they love this unique and remarkable building. Building restoration projects range in size and complexity, so we need volunteers with a variety of skills and talents. Whether you are a Jack-(or Jill)-of-all-trades, a licensed contractor or engineer, or somewhere in between, you’ll find a welcoming group to join. From painting and carpentry to landscape and electrical work, we need your skills.

Bridget’s Cradles seeks a reliable person interested in serving as a volunteer home helper on our team. This person will play a large role in allowing us to reach more families and hospitals. Projects will be assigned for completion at home on a weekly or monthly basis, depending on the assignment and volunteer availability. All assignments must be completed and returned to Bridget’s Cradles by the agreed upon due date. Possible duties include, but are not limited to: adding tags to cradles and prayer squares, hole-punching tags, threading ribbon through cradles, and various other projects based on organizational need.

Requirements & Commitment

-Commitment to the mission and vision of Bridget's Cradles and passionate about serving bereaved families
-Resides in Wichita, KS or surrounding area
-Must be able to consistently contribute a set number of hours per week or month
-Must return completed assignments to Bridget’s Cradles by agreed upon due date
-3-month minimum commitment
-Reliable transportation to and from Bridget’s Cradles volunteer work locations to pick up and drop off assignments
-Smoke-free home (for completing assignments)​

We are in need of sewers who can help us with the "finishing touches" of our cradles (e.g., lace/trim, charms). Cradles are sent to us from all over the country. We complete the finishing touches to them as well as add our tag and charm, then we ship them to hospitals nationwide.
