SCOPE OF WORK:

The IRC Wichita Family Mentor Project focuses on building the relationship with newly arrived refugee youth and their family and navigating them to adapt the Wichita public school system and to resources for academic progress and social emotional well-being. The role also expected to collaborate with IRC staff to provide support and care to refugee family members as they adjust their new lives in the U.S. Through the project, mentors receive several trainings, attend scheduled meetings with IRC staff, and have a unique experience to introduce refugee families the Greater Wichita.

Bring a hot, nutritious meal to the doors of qualified homebound people 60 and over. Arrive between 10 am and 11:15 to pick up meals. Deliver the meals within the time outlined by program guidelines. Follow delivery instructions and procedures. Report clients who do not answer the door or unusual circumstances to MOW staff. Time commitment is approximately one hour per route.

The Wichita Animal Action League is looking for volunteers who can help staff plan several special events/fundraisers. Duties could include securing donations for the event (not necessarily monetary), helping with logistics, working with others on the planning committee, etc. There are several special events we have coming up, to include an animal rescue walk and a Halloween event. Additional events may be added. Having begun as an organization in 1984, Trees for Life has accumulated a lot of old technology. We're looking for an individual or a group of individuals willing to come in a few times a week/hours a day to sort through the tech, see what works, and take what's broken/not needed to be recycled.

Teach for Life, an educational branch of Trees for Life, is a worldwide movement of people sharing knowledge about how to help children learn. We are starting with a focus on early childhood education, to build a strong foundation for lifelong learning. We are currently sharing tips and ideas for parents and other “non-formal teachers” on how they can help a young child learn and be ready for school. Brief videos share how they can turn everyday moments into learning opportunities. They are designed to be universal, to make translation easy.

Disaster duty officers are a lifeline to temporary assistance during a disaster. Volunteer Duty Officers are responsible for dispatching Red Cross volunteers to meet with families impacted by home fires and other disasters so they can provide temporary relief. Must have good phone, computer skills and internet.

Helpful volunteers staff the hospital to provide assistance to Veterans, families, visitors and arriving patients. Volunteers also provide escort services as needed, and offer directions to hospital visitors. Transport wheelchair patients and guest to and from wards, clinics, the lab and other parts of the medical facility. Deliver specimens, RX and supplies ect. Acting as a concierge (Escort Services).

Help ensure Veterans make it to vital medical appointments. Volunteers assist VA medical team to make reminder calls and send out reminder notifications. We will provide all the training needed, you just need a friendly voice and a willingness to help others.  

Volunteer today! The Veterans served at the Dole VA need Volunteer Drivers to assist Veterans to make it to much needed medical appointments. Veterans often have no other way to make it medical appointments without the help of caring Volunteers. Vans have been donated by the Disabled American Veterans to help  Veterans meet transportation and medical needs. The only thing you will need is a desire to help others, current car insurance, and a valid  driver’s license.  

The Wichita Animal Action League relies on volunteers to fulfill the mission of rescuing animals in crisis. There are dozens of ways to get involved and make a difference in an animal’s life. This could include helping at adoption events, puppy/kitten yoga, microchip clinics for the community, organizing and/or working WAAL's resale shop, helping with administrative tasks, designing flyers, transporting animals to vet appointments, walking dogs, helping with WAAL's annual fundraiser Wags & Whiskers, just to name a few.

Family mentors are paired with a newly arriving or recently arrived refugee individual or family. Mentors are empowered to involve clients in their lives as much as desired, with the knowledge that participation in any variety of activities will assist refugee families in their adaptation to life in the United States.

IRC requests a minimum commitment of 4-6 months of volunteering, 1-2 hours/week on your own schedule.

Are you a dependable, safe and courteous driver who can help us make this important delivery?

Volunteer Transportation Specialists deliver life-saving blood products from Red Cross distribution facilities to hospitals, using a Red Cross-owned vehicle. We need you to commit to 2-4 shifts per month (or more if you can!). Typical shifts are about 4 hours.  Day and evening shifts are available, however priority needs are weekend mornings, long-distance routes, and evenings.

We are a IRS 501c3 non-profit Educational Organization dedicated to education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. 

Table of Hope is one of the largest food pantries in the Wichita Metro Area providing food staples to more than 1,000 people and more than 400 pets each week. Since the pandemic we have seen the number of new clients increase dramatically, particularly in the past several weeks as unemployment benefits have run out or been drastically reduced.

At the same time demand is increasing our volunteer staff is shrinking. We are losing several of our most able-bodied high-school age volunteers this next week with the start of public schools and so we are in desperate need of additional help.

Distribution takes place every Tuesday and opportunities include:

--Prepping/assembling food boxes in our staging area
--Loading food boxes onto a conveyor belt that connects our staging area to our outdoor delivery area
--Loading food boxes in our outdoor delivery area into cars

Write notes of encouragement for our homeless for us to place in their breakfast sacks. We have had to move to grab and go breakfast, limiting the amount of time we can spend socializing with our community.

Please help us by writing kind notes of encouragement and hope to be placed in the sacks. While the quarantine helps prevent the virus, it is further isolating our community. It can also act as writing practice for children who are now doing school from home. You can mail your notes to us, call ahead to drop off, or scan and send them to our email.

Dole VA Whole Health program is looking for a certified yoga instructor to teach classes once a week on outpatient Veterans. 

We are located inside a 1938 school building with recurring maintenance needs. Responsibilities include "handy-person" tasks such as changing out florescent light bulbs, fixing door hinges, light plumbing, and maintaining window A/C units. We will pay for any materials needed. This volunteer position has a very flexible schedule. You could be "on call" as needed, or come in on a weekly basis, etc.

This is an opportunity for an individual to pick up the recycling from the Trees for Life office once a week and take it to Pro Kansas Recycling. Time required for each pickup/drop off is approx. 1-2 hours. This position has a very flexible schedule. 

Assist with preparation and set up, roles and assignments or the clean up and tear down required upon conclusion of the event. Events include Annual Benefit Golf Tournament, Red Shoe Society Kickball Tournament, Holiday Cocktail Party and Lights of Love.

All meals must be prepared on site at our Ronald McDonald House.  We want to ensure good health and sanitation for the families staying in our Houses - so for that reason, we ask that the meals are made in our kitchen.  We simply ask volunteers to provide their ingredients for the meal.  You are welcome to check with me and see if we have the ingredients that you are needing. We then supply all of the pots, pans, bowls, utensils, etc. necessary to prepare the dinner.  Our kitchen have dual cooking stations and offer five sinks, six refrigerators, two stoves, etc. to help accommodate cooking for a larger population.  Generally we average 35 individuals nightly.  I recommend you check in with me a day or two beforehand and I can give you a more accurate headcount.  All Volunteers must be of High School age or older, and we ask that you limit your group size to no more than 12. We have found that it is easier to prepare casseroles or dishes that freeze easily or make good leftovers.  However; please feel free to be as creative as possible with your meal! You are welcome to come in anytime of the day to prepare the meal, as our families come and go all day. They eat when they are back at the house from the hospital. This gives them the freedom to remain bedside with their child! Feel free to send me your menu, this way if we have the needed items in our pantry or freezer I'm happy to set those aside for you to use for our families.

Our House Volunteers Provide support to the House Manager with various daily duties. Our House Volunteers help with the following areas; Administrative Work (database aptitude necessary), Front Desk (Technology & Customer Service aptitude necessary), House Warmer (Household tasks/cleaning) and Family Services (Plan and execute family services).

Prompt, reliable, willing to assist as needs arise, takes directions well, listens, likes to keep things orderly, and able to climb stairs. Must be willing to Volunteer al least one 3-hour sfift weekly or biweekly. Shifts are 8:30 - 11:30 am, 11:30 am - 2:30 pm, 2:30 - 5:30 pm and 5:30 - 8:30 pm Monday - Sunday. Training provided

To serve families with pediatrics patients in Wesley Children's Hospital by being present for a full four hour shift in the Family Room; ensuring the room is open and available for their needs. Volunteer shifts are from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm, 12:30 - 4:30 pm & 4:30 - 8:30 pm seven days a week.

You will supervising the Family Room and overseeing that policies are upheld. Assisting families by answering basic questions and providing a tour of the room, Registering families for RMHC Wichita reporting purposes and tracking room usage/census. Licensed medical volunteers are required to care for those in need.We request 4 hours per month to volunteer. We shall accommodate your schedule.

Practice conversational English with students in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. Assist teachers with classroom activities.  Day and evening hours.

Provide one-on-one tutoring in math and language arts to GED preparation students. Day or evening classes. High School Diploma or GED required. Teaching experience a plus.

Help maintain gardens during spring and summer seasons. Duties include planning and preparing five garden areas and weekly watering and weeding of the gardens throughout the season.

We are looking for volunteers to assist staff prepare and serve a nutritious breakfast including beverages using safe food handling practices. Hours are Tues-Friday from 7:15 am to 8:15 am and 8:15 to 9:30 am. Volunteers typically work one day a week, and schedules are flexible. We welcome groups. Many of our Core's go on to take our safety classes and become "Site Coaches," volunteers willing to lead groups of other volunteers and coach them in activities on our construction sites.  

Victim advocates provide support to victims of sexual assault and their significant others by responding to crisis calls and calls to the hospital for medical attention and evidence collection. Must complete 40 hours of training and be able to provide own transportation.

Help children and families by donating much needed miscellaneous items (backpacks, school supplies, clothing, etc.) or organize a drive at your church or place of business so your fellow employees can also contribute. No minimum age.

Our volunteers support every aspect of producing our eight shows per season at WCT. All our board members, our cast, crew, directors, production help, work day participants, and box office and snack bar staff are all volunteers. Volunteering for cast and crew requires going to an audition, typically scheduled two months before opening night for each show. Directors submit applications per season, and are selected via an interview process by the Play Selection Committee, headed by the Vice President. Production help is recruited through each individual director, and so requires contacting each director per show. Our work day participants come on announced Saturday mornings from approximately 10 am until 2 pm and do tasks like moving flats, painting, and constructing the set. As the show gets closer to opening night, these mornings may involve theater cleanup, too. Box office and snack bar positions are available on each show night, and involve receiving money and providing either programs, soft drinks, or snacks. Additionally, we send out posters to businesses and organizations, and are looking for new avenues for inexpensive advertising, so coming up with new ideas is also a great way to volunteer. All of these opportunities are available to someone without any theater experience.

This opportunity changes depending on the projects at the time but can include help with mailings, filing donor communication, assisting with special events or other projects.

In our school-based mentoring program, we ask mentors to spend 45 min - 1 hour each week with a child and to commit to mentoring for one school year. Youth Horizons does have strict requirements that have to be met in order to mentor. Intensive training is provided along with full service case management. Minimum age is 18. 

Volunteers will assist in clearing brush and stubble, trimming trees and hedges, mowing grass, weeding, raking, and other similar duties. Miscellaneous maintenance duties and tasks will be available at various times. Minimum age is 12, with adult supervision.

Mentor youth ages 5 - 14 by balancing spiritual activities (attending church, youth groups, serving others, etc.), life skills development (fixing a car, money management, cooking, etc.) and fun activities (sports, movies, going to the park, etc.) for 2 - 3 hours each week. Youth Horizons does have strict requirements that have to be met in order to mentor. Intensive training is provided along with full service case management. Minimum age is 21. 

Help residents and staff with shopping trips, putting away groceries, letter writing, balancing checkbook and on community outings or teaching classes in the Adult Day program.

Help to prepare and cook 500-3000 meals from 11 am - 2 p.m. Mon -Fri or 12 pm - 3 pm Sat & Sun., under the direct supervision of the chef. Activities include cutting vegetables and fruits, preparing desserts and salads, assembling casseroles, setting up the hall for evening meal and dishwashing. Minimum age is 15 and must obtain a food handlers card at the Health Department.

Assist moms while shopping in the thrift store, stock store and keep it tidy, sort and put away donations, write up moms shopping ticket, count change. Two shifts available Monday - Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and/or 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Wednesday 3 pm - 5 pm. Minimum age is 18 and must be female.

Sack groceries at the food ministry serving low-income people. Volunteer must be able to stand during the three-hour shift and able to lift 30 - 35 pounds. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes.

Work in warehouse, sorting out donations of clothing, household items and small furniture. Hang clothing.

Volunteers are needed for plant maintenance, including weeding, raking, pruning, mulching and deadheading. Planting help is needed to set out new material, relocate existing plants and to divide and replant bulbs. Minimum age is 16 without an adult.

Purpose of the JDF Door Greeter is to welcome parents/family as they come in for regular visitation. The door greeters will assist visitors who are unfamiliar with how to operate the personal lockers and contacting the control booth operators. JDF door greeters will answer general questions about visitation and the facility. Share your skills and interests by presenting a 30 to 45 minute program for students at the K.T. Wiedemann Adult Learning Center. Students are adults with disabilities ranging in age from late teens to late sixties. Minimum age is 17.

Help relieve staff at high volume times, emergencies, etc. by answering the phones, taking messages, and directing walk-in customers to appropriate area.

Enthusiastic volunteers to identify and contact retailers in specific areas of the City and ask them to sell Riverfest buttons in their store(s). Contact with retailers will need to be made in February, with delivery of buttons made to each location by April 5. Volunteers should have a strong customer service and sales background, be able to drive and able to lift 10 - 15 lbs. Project begins in January with training and ends April 5; hours are flexible.

The Museum has Docent positions available, offering a wide range of volunteer opportunities and flexible scheduling. If you enjoy learning, sharing knowledge and working with students of all ages, consider volunteering to lead school tours at the Historical Museum.

Greet moms, presenters, donors, etc. that come into the building. Answer multi-line phone. Check moms in using a computer system. Assist moms wanting to watch an educational video or turn in homework. Basic office work such as filing, making copies, etc. Must be female and minimum age is 18.

Help with mailings, prepare literature packets, photocopying and filing.

Deliver literature to hospitals and doctors' offices and run various errands. Sporadic time commitment, volunteer would be "on-call" (not 24 hours).

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Emergency Training

Conduct a variety of activities with the youth such as crafts, cooking, life skills and recreational activities.

Duties include assisting clients with weekly grocery shopping, unloading truck and stocking shelves. Must be able to lift 35 pounds. Hours vary, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Volunteers are needed every Sunday evening from 5:45 p.m. - 9:15 p.m.to help conduct Bingo games by selling bingo tabs, verifying winners and prize distribution.

The Entre Nous Victorian dancers need ladies and gentleman to learn time-period Victorian dances to perform for guests at various special events and weekends. The Dixie Lee Dance Troupe also needs ladies for their raucous, rowdy saloon girl act. Must be available Saturdays and for various special events. Rehearsals for both groups are on Monday evenings.

Assist with the cleaning of exhibit areas. Opportunity to obtain a behind-the-scenes experiences with the objects which help bring history to life. Duties include sweeping, dusting, window washing and artifact handling. Volunteers must be detail-oriented, conscientious with the handling of artifacts, and have the ability to follow directions. Minimum age is 16 unless accompanied by an adult.

Give visitors their first impression of the museum with a helpful and friendly greeting. Orient them to the admissions process and the benefits of a museum membership. Position is available mainly on the weekends. Minimum age is 16 unless accompanied by an adult.

Step back in time and serve as a period-appropriate site interpreter. Provide historical interpretation and demonstrations for families, friends, individuals, schools and groups as it relates to the history of Wichita, Sedgwick County and lifestyles from 1865 - 1882. History knowledge and training required. Some period clothing available on a limited basis. Minimum age is 16 years unless accompanied by an adult.
