Harbor House provides outreach services and a safe, 24/7 shelter for survivors of domestic abuse.

The Grounds and gardening volunteer helps maintain the outdoor garden and surrounding areas at Harbor House throughout the year. This role helps support a peaceful, clean, and welcoming outdoor environment for clients, children, staff, and visitors through basic gardening, landscaping, and seasonal outdoor maintenance tasks. Tools and materials will be available if needed.   

Qualifications include: Gardening experience preferred, ability to bend, no lifting restrictions, ability to work alone with little supervision.  

All volunteers in this role must pass background checks & complete VIRTUS training.

Harbor House provides outreach services and a safe, 24/7 shelter for survivors of domestic abuse.

Child care volunteers provide a safe, supportive and engaging environment for children staying at Harbor House shelter while parents attend, in house groups, life skills classes, apply for jobs and housing, and during case manager meetings. Child care volunteers may work with a group size of one to six and children of all ages.   

Volunteers cannot be in a private locked office space 1:1 with a child at any time.  

All volunteers in this role must pass background checks, including fingerprinting, and complete VIRTUS training.

Harbor House provides outreach services and a safe, 24/7 shelter for survivors of domestic abuse.

Volunteers will transport harbor House agency vehicles to Charlie's Car Wash to clean the inside/outside. Tasks include: clean windows, vacuum, wash and possibly refuel vehicles.  

All volunteers in this role must pass background checks, complete VIRTUS training, and be 21 or older to drive agency vehicles.  

Qualifications include: Detail oriented, dependable and ability to work alone with little supervision.

Organizing and hosting, at the program, a special event, such as, a spa day, cookie/cupcake decorating with the kids, movie night, movie under the stars, water fun outside, arts and crafts stations, or carnival day. All these are just ideas and examples, feel free to be CREATIVE!  

All volunteers in this role must pass background checks & complete VIRTUS training.  

Qualifications include: Experience working with children (preferred if special event includes kids), ability to organize and lead event, ability to provide resources for the event.

Harbor House at Catholic Charities is more than a safe shelter for survivors of severe violence. Harbor House uses outreach advocacy services to guide survivors of abuse through the judicial, medical and DCF systems.  

The Hospitality and Resource Volunteers help maintain a welcoming, organized, and functional environment for clients. This role helps to sort donated items into their proper locations, clean and organize shelter storage rooms, prepare client resources, and assist with general organizational tasks throughout the shelter. 

Qualifications Include: Ability to stand for extended periods of time, crouch, bend, climb and carry at least 20 lbs is required for this position. A weekly volunteer commitment is appreciated.

Kitchen/Meal Time Volunteers assist with meal service operations at Harbor House by helping prepare, serve, clean up, and occasionally pick up food donations. This role supports a welcoming and respectful dining environment while assisting kitchen staff and engaging positively with families at the shelter.  

Previous experience working in a kitchen and serving food is appreciated, but not required.  

All volunteers in this role must pass background checks & complete VIRTUS.

Adult Day Services provides an affordable, quality day program that helps seniors and adults with disabilities maintain independence in the community.

The meal transport volunteer will pick up food from a fast food restaurant, similar to Door Dash, and bring the food to ADS for a program room of 20.

All volunteers in this role must pass background checks and VIRTUS training.

 

Timeframe:  10:45 AM - 1 PM; multiple times per month

Adult Day Services provides an affordable, quality day program that helps seniors and adults with disabilities maintain independence in the community.

Volunteers will clean the inside/outside of fleet vehicles. Tasks include: cleaning windows, vacuuming, and washing the vehicles. 

 

All volunteers in this role must complete background checks and VIRTUS training.

Become a classroom volunteer today through the AmeriCorps Senior Foster Grandparent Program at Catholic Charities! Seniors (ages 55+) spend time in early learning centers, public/parochial schools, and shelters across the county to build relationships with students to help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.  Volunteers receive a tax-free stipend, mileage reimbursement, paid training, and the opportunity to join a community of like-minded senior volunteers! This is a great opportunity for seniors who enjoy working with children to give back to their community!

 

Volunteers work 15-40 hours per week with flexible scheduling.  Volunteers in this position must pass a background check and take a three-hour class called Virtus, which teaches adults the signs of child abuse and neglect as well as the best practices Catholic Charities follows to protect youth and vulnerable adults in our ministries and schools that work with the Foster Grandparent program.

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry provides food to families in need.

Description: Shopper volunteers help clients while shopping, pack food into bags, stock shelves, sort items in freezer and load client cars. All volunteers in this role must pass background checks and complete VIRTUS training. VIRTUS is a 3 hour class that teaches adults the signs of child abuse and neglect, as well as the best practices we follow to keep children and vulnerable adults safe in our ministry. Qualifications include: Ability to bend, crouch, stand for extended periods of time and lift at least 10 lbs required. Volunteers in this position may work outside in all types of weather.  Bilingual in Spanish or Vietnamese welcome!Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and every 4th Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.
