Who We Are
The United Way of the Plains Free Tax Prep Program, or VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program provides low-to-moderate income households with free assistance to file their income tax return.
In 2022, 150 volunteers filed tax returns that generated over $7 million in refunds for tax payers across south central Kansas. The program is a valuable resource to many, as families continue to struggle with having enough resources to meet their financial obligations.
What We Do
You have the power to help others on the road to financial stability. Every year, millions of dollars in tax credits go unclaimed because people simply don’t know they are eligible. You can help those individuals by volunteering through the United Way of the Plains Free Tax Prep Program, or VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assitance) program.
Join forces with 150+ volunteers who make the program a success every year. This volunteer opportunity is great
for young professionals looking to build their resumes, retirees wanting a temporary volunteer role and anyone with a passion to help others.
- No experience needed, free trainings are provided to become IRS certified
- Short-term opportunity (January to April)
- Ability to pick your site and service type (in-person or virtual)
- On-site support – you’re never on your own!
- Greeters and coordinators also needed
